I am currently the Executive Director of Robertson County Special
Services (RCSS). I have also held positions here as the Associate
Executive Director, Coordinator of Psychological Services and
Licensed Specialist in School Psychology (LSSP). I have enjoyed
working with the students of Robertson County since 1984. Prior
to my employment at RCSS, I was the Director of Human
Developmental Services and Case Management with the Mental
Health/Mental Retardation Authority of the Brazos Valley. I
graduated from Brenham High School, the University of Texas at
Austin, and Stephen F. Austin State University. I have also taken
post-graduate hours at Texas A&M University. My professional
licenses include: Licensed Psychological Associate, Licensed
Professional Counselor, and Licensed Specialist in School
Psychology. Additionally, I hold numerous certifications and
maintain close affiliations with several professional
organizations.

Hi! My name is Rose Starkey and I am the Executive Administrative
Assistant for Robertson County Special Services. I've been working
here since 1991. My previous experience includes 2 years with
Hearne ISD and 9 years in banking. My primary purpose is to
facilitate the efficient operation of our office, assist the
Executive Director in performing his responsibilities, and provide
clerical services to the department head and other staff members
when requested. Some of my major duties are: Prepare records,
reports, and correspondence on the local, state & federal level;
establish budgets, issue purchase orders, maintain and reconcile
expenditures and accounts; and coordinate local Special Olympic
activities. I have many responsibilities and duties which
occasionally fall under the statement “other duties as assigned.”

Hello, my name is Hope Zeig. I have been with Robertson County
Special Services since July of 2000. My previous work experience
includes seven years in banking and one year as office manager/dental assistant in a dental office.
As the secretary of RCSS, my duties include preparing
correspondence, creating forms, compiling data for various
reports, publishing our newsletter, assisting with technology
needs, and numerous other office responsibilities. I purchase,
distribute, and keep inventory of Special Education
material/equipment for all Special Education teachers in the five
school districts. I also work with Special Olympic athlete and
am certified as a Special Olympic bowling and basketball coach.
One of my newest duties is to maintain our fabulous website, but
most importantly – to support all RCSS staff, teachers, and
administrators.
I
have been employed by Robertson County Special Services since
August 2004. My previous experience includes working as a
diagnostician and special education teacher. I have a Bachelor
of Science degree in Elementary Education and Generic Special
Education and a Master of Education degree in Education
Psychology from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. My
current campus assignment is Bremond ISD. My job
responsibilities include receiving referrals, administering
assessments, interpreting assessment data, participating in
Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) meetings, and consulting
with school personnel and parents. I assist the executive
director in evaluating program effectiveness, compiling reports,
records, and other required documents, by keeping up with
current federal and state special education law, and personnel
management. I also provide CPI/IANCI instruction, CLASS IEP
Program training, and staff development.
I joined the RCSS family on August 1, 2006. I previously worked as
a manager at one of the major grocery stores in College Station
for 4 years and sadly left due to the closing of my store
location. I am the Assessment Secretary and assist the
diagnosticians with ARD preparation and assessment writing. I am
also the primary translator for the district.
I am starting my 30th year as
an educator. I have taught special and general education
classes. And I have been a diagnostician in Robertson County
since 2001. My most important roles are as daughter, wife,
mother, grandmother and friend. I love to travel to the point
where I am excited and eager to see any place in the world. I
have enjoyed working in Robertson County.
Hi, my
name is Sandy Harvey. My current assignments with Robertson County
Special Services include Calvert ISD and Mumford ISD.
I have
been an Educational Diagnostician for 12 years. I have earned a
degree in Elementary Education with a reading
specialization from Texas A&I University, Kingsville, Texas and
master’s degree with an emphasis in Educational Diagnostics from
Texas A&M University, Laredo, Texas. I am excited to be a part of
the RCSS team.
My name is Theresa Rice, and I have
been serving the Hearne school district since August of 2006. My
previous experience includes 7 years of teaching junior high and
high school general ed and special ed in Louisiana. I have 4
years of teaching experience in Texas at both Rockdale High
School and Ponder Junior High School. I hold a B.A. in English
from Louisiana College and an M.Ed. in special education from
the University of North Texas in Denton. I am the case
manager/diagnostician for Hearne Elementary School and Hearne
Junior High.
In August of
1995 Laurie joined the staff of Robertson County Special
Services. Her previous experience includes six years as a middle
school science teacher, and five years as a special education
counselor and an elementary school counselor. Having earned a
Bachelor of Science degree from Lamar University and a Master of
Education degree from TexasA&M
University, Laurie’s current responsibilities include being the
Case Manager Assistant, assisting the speech-language
pathologists, facilitating Individual Transition Plans (ITPs) for
students in grades 8-12, and assisting the Executive Director in
the preparation of grant proposals.

Hi!!
My name is Katherine Daugherty. I am a 2004 graduate of the
University of Texas at Dallas, where I received a Bachelor of
Science in Speech-Language Pathology. I am completing my second
and final year at Texas Woman’s University. I moved back to my
home town of Bryan in January of 2005. I have been working as a
Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant for RCSS since August of
2005. I assist Diana and Kim (SLPs); my responsibilities
include: improve or correct speech deficiencies, communicative
skills and language deficiencies in order to provide a more fluent
means of communication for the child. We (Melanie Gerzik, Kim
Mann, Diana Jetter, Kathy Slater and myself) are excited to have
introduced two new programs to the school districts. Language in
the Classroom (LINC) is a classroom oriented pre-intervention
program which facilitates language skills. The second is Motor
Lab, which is also a pre-intervention program that works on motor
skill, teaching children to become aware of their bodies and
strategies for controlling their bodies.

Kim Mann is a 1997 graduate of Baylor
University with a master’s degree in speech-language pathology.
She did her undergraduate work at the University of North Texas in
Denton. Following graduation, she worked for Hillcrest Baptist
Medical Center in Waco providing therapy services in outpatient,
inpatient, and acute care rehabilitation settings as well as on
the comprehensive rehabilitation unit. She moved to the BrazosValley
in August of 2000 with her husband and began working for Robertson
County Special Services. She is licensed by the State Licensure
Board and holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence in
Speech-Language Pathology. She currently provides speech therapy
services for students in the Bremond and Franklin school
districts.
I
graduated in 1978 from Texas Woman's University with a BS in
Speech and Hearing Therapy. Along with my Speech Therapist
certification, I am also certified to teach Kindergarten and
ESL. I am starting my 28th year of teaching in the public
school. I joined RCSS in 2006. I am also very involved with the
Special Olympics program. I am an equestrian coach and have been
the director of competition for the regional and state
competitions.
My
responsibilities for the coming year include provide speech
therapy and LINC (language in the classroom) for Franklin ,
Hearne Head Start, Hearne Jr., and Sr. High school.
Melanie Murray-Gerzik joined Robertson County Special Services in
2001. She worked as an occupational therapist at Brazos Valley
Rehabilitation Center prior to entering the school system. As an
occupational therapist, Melanie is responsible for assessing and
providing therapeutic intervention to maximize the independent
functioning of students with mental, physical or emotional
disabilities. Melanie is also a member of the Assistive Technology
Team, providing evaluation and selection of equipment to increase,
maintain or improve the functional capabilities of individuals
with disabilities.
I started
working for RCSS in August 2004. I am a licensed psychologist
with a Ph.D. in School Psychology from TAMU. I have worked in
psychology since 1995, for two Texas school districts
and for the Texas Youth Commission. Prior to psychology, I was
an information-systems consultant and project manager for about
nine years. Current responsibilities primarily include assessment
and diagnosis (i.e. for emotional disturbance and developmental
disorders), individual & group counseling, and consultation with parents
and educational staff for all school districts in Robertson
County.
I have just graduated
from Blinn PTA program and received my license from the State
Board of Physical Therapy Examiners. I also have a BS in Exercise
& Sports Science from Texas Tech (GO RED RAIDERS!!!) I worked for
Early Childhood Intervention for 4 years, as a Rehab Teacher,
prior to returning to school for my PTA license. My duties
include assisting Beth Roberts, Physical Therapist, with all
the children receiving physical therapy. I will serve all 5
districts in Robertson County and also will be involved with the
Ready Bodies, Learning Minds motor labs.
My other duties
include wife and mother of two daughters (7 & 4 years old). My
husband, Robert, and I have loved living in Aggieland despite our
Tech loyalty. I am also very excited to be working in the field I
have always loved…PEDIATRICS!
My name
is Steve McGuire and I have been with RCSS since early 2001.
Prior to that time, I was an administrator with the local
Workforce Agency. Here with the school, I serve as the Technology
Coordinator for office staff and teachers in all five school
districts. My goals involve making the needed technology available
for all staff and students to maximize the educational process and
provide needed employment training skills for our students.
Hi! My name is Maggie Rodriguez and I joined Robertson County
Special Services in August of 2006. I was previously employed by
Hearne ISD for 20 years. In those 20 years, I worked in regular education
with the ESL and Migrant Program, and as a Special Ed
Teacher's Assistant. I volunteered with Special Olympics and
coached girl's high school softball. My last four years were spent
with the Even Start program teaching the Adult ESL Class. I
continue to teach the ESL Adult classes provided by Region VI on Tuesday and Thursday
evenings .
As Job Coach, I
teach independent work skills such as behavioral
strategies, social skills, time management, and organizational
skills
to "at risk" students from Calvert, Franklin, and
Hearne High Schools
so they may secure and maintain employment.
I collect information from teachers, parents,
and site personnel to helps me determined the most appropriate
placement for each student. After placement I continue to maintain
record of progress and performance which allows me to recognize
areas requiring extra attention.
Several worksites have been established for the
students and with my assistance they learn tasks appropriate to the
individual site.
